DIY agents (Hermes, OpenClaw, and similar) vs building AI staff on Grok Bot
Wiring DIY agents like Hermes or OpenClaw yourself is a real path, and it is also a second job.

Some operators want to wire everything themselves. That path is real. It is also a second job.
I respect builders. I also know what nights look like when you run events and hospitality for a living. If your gap is inbox, leads, content, local visibility, and books, the first question is not which framework repo to clone. The first question is whether you need coverage this month or another engineering project.
You pick a framework or stack, connect models and tools, write prompts or plugins, host something, and babysit breakage when an API changes at 10 p.m.
Hermes Agent (Nous Research) is one example of an open agent framework aimed at builders. Docs cover plugins, custom tools, and an agent loop you can extend. That is a developer-shaped path, not a Saturday workshop for an operator who just needs inbox coverage.
OpenClaw: a name circulating in DIY agent conversations.
Other DIY stacks come and go. The pattern stays the same: you own the wiring.
DIY can be the right move if you are technical and want full control. It is the wrong first move if you need coverage this month and do not want another engineering project.
You also inherit product risk. Frameworks rename. Docs lag. Community Discord becomes your support queue. That is fine for a builder hobby. It is expensive when a customer inquiry sits because your plugin broke after a model update.
Phantom Office Live is a guided build of six AI staff roles on Grok Bot, on your accounts, with approval gates. Titles: Chief of Staff, Admin, Content, Sales, Visibility, Books.
You leave with roles running. You are not starting from a blank framework repo.
Why Grok Bot for Live: easiest to start, most mobile-friendly for a live room. Bring an account or set one up live. That is required.
Session order is deliberate. Chief of Staff and the file home first. Confirm it works. Then bring the other five online. Give each a first real job. Approve and go live. Live-by-end-of-day means live channel, written brief, first real task running, approval gate on, per role.
Nothing goes out under your name without your approval. The name Phantom Office is a joke about the hours. The staff is not invisible.
DIY is power and responsibility. Live is speed and a known stack for operators.
If you already run Hermes or another DIY stack successfully, you may not need Live. If you are drowning in inbox and leads, start with staff roles you can approve, not a plugin scaffold.
Agents is the right product word for this comparison post. Everywhere else on Phantom Office I say staff and roles on purpose. The customer-facing promise is coverage for a human business: email, sales follow-up, content, local visibility, and books.
Live is $597 flat with 12 seats. Complimentary invite is first 12 free with overflow waitlist. Tool subscriptions run about $100 to $200 a month to providers, not to me. Optional Community is $97 a month. Weekly one-hour group call. Bring questions ready.
Who it is for: solo operators and 1-3 person teams in events, hospitality, home services, and local agencies. The next Live session is Saturday, October 31, 2026, in Frisco. Doors open at 9:30 AM and class runs 10 AM to 2 PM. I share the exact venue after you sign up. Bring a laptop. Bring logins for the tools you already use. Do not invent a new DIY stack the week before class.
